The Hindenburg

The Hindenburg disaster was an airship accident that occurred on May 6, 1937, in Manchester Township, New Jersey, United States.

Catastrophe as spectacle has, no doubt, been around a lot longer than me, so who am I to comment? I learned about the Hindenburg while watching professional wrestling on television when one of the people mentioned destroying somebody like the Hindenburg. I was probably ten or close enough to it to illustrate that in a pre-internet world, we didn’t know about all of these tragedies and didn’t have an internet to consult. I’m guessing I asked my parents. A few years later I saw and heard the footage of the Hindenburg catching fire. Later on, my generation will get its own version of the Hindenburg on January 28, 1986 when the Space Shuttle Challenger exploded on live tv in front of schoolchildren everywhere.

Here is footage of the disaster with some of the most famous audio in recorded history narrating what’s happening.
