Bustle – I did an interview with author Tracy Manaster for Bustle about independent publishing.
Hey, There’s a Dead Guy in the Living Room – a now defunct but archived multi-authored blog about the crime fiction community. I talked about a lot of things, but mostly the publishing business side.
HuffPost – back in the early part of the last decade somebody asked me to write about the publishing industry for the Huffington Post and at the time that felt like an honor, but now I’m not sure. Anyway, most of this is publishing adjacent. The one piece I’m really proud of (and the piece that made them ask me to stick in my lane for some reason) is this one about real world violence as entertainment and how maybe we’ve been sabotaging ourselves for no good reason.
The Eephus – this is one of my favorite pieces because I got to write about some of my eccentric loves, namely heavy metal and professional wrestling. Specifically I wrote about the legendary Ox Baker and how I once thought I opened a portal to hell by listening to Holy Diver by Dio.
My Melanoma Experience – I was diagnosed with Lentigo Maligna Melanoma in November of 2019. My treatment included a Mohs procedure and plastic surgery. This is a journal of my experience. If you’re ending up here because you’ve got a situation and you want to hear about other people’s experiences, I’m always around to talk.
The Weird Thing That Happened With My Brain – In the essay about my Melanoma experience I mention that my brain did weird things. Here’s a deeper exploration of that time.
Scenes from an Alternate Life – During a Reiki session in the last bit of 2019 I channeled an alternate life of mine. That’s about the only way I know how to explain it.
