One of my favorite albums of all time is We Lost the Sea’s stunning masterpiece — Departure Songs. I have long been intrigued by the thought going into its creation, especially as it relates to songs centred around deaths that were captured on film. It’s the album’s last two songs that resonate the most with me and also helped me explore the idea of how much the 1986 explosion of the Space Shuttle Challenger affected so many grade school kids, especially in the United States.
We Lost the Sea guitarist and visual artist, Matt Harvey, talked to me about the band’s history, the goals of artists, and what it means to be alive in a world that is so profoundly kinetic.
